  • Buy a California Sportfishing License online, required before culling urchins
  • Sign and Submit the G2KR waiver form online. Every diver (Instructors, students, everyone) must do this before diving at Tanker's Reef.
  • Sign up to ride the Beach Hopper II to cull urchins Tankers' Reef. You can take your class out on BH2 for their KRF certification dives!. Scheduled on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays

Teach a Kelp Restoration Class Aboard the Vision June 13

Bring your class to learn KFR Diving aboard the Vision. 

The Vision will be coming to Monterey to shuttle you and your students from Breakwater Cove to Tankers' Reef.  

  • 8am - about 3pm on Monday June 13 
  • 8am - about 2pm on Tuesday June 14 
  • $35 Donation per space 


Channel Island Expeditions is donating all vessel and crew time to help restore kelp in partnership with the Giant Giant Kelp Restoration project (G2KR)! Your $35 donation for a 2-tank urchin culling trip to Tankers’ Reef goes directly to G2KR to support kelp restoration efforts in Monterey.  


Trip: 2-tank or 3-tank (time permitting) trip to Tanker’s Reef on The Vision 

Time:  Board at 8:00am and return at 3:00pm on June 13; 2pm return on Tuesday June 14  Boarding location: Breakwater Cove Marina, 32 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA 93940 

Included:  Hot lunch, beverages, air fills, an urchin hammer you can borrow, and a great dive buddy if you come alone. Bring your own breakfast. 


Please bring:  

  • Certification card Kelp Forest Restoration Diver certification card (for those already certified) 
  • Your valid 2022 California sportfishing license 
  • 1 tank to be refilled on board All dive gear, including weights 
  • Breakfast or morning snacks 
  • Dive slate 
  • Tips for the crew are greatly appreciated. 
  • Bring your own hammer or use one of ours.  
  • You are required to Sign and Submit the G2KR waiver form online before boarding Please also Sign and Submit the CIEx waiver before boarding (available when you book your spot)

  

No-Show Fee: An additional $35 fee will be charged for no-shows. If you are not able to join for whatever reason, we are happy to refund all payment once we find a replacement diver. Space is limited so we appreciate your commitment once you sign up.  


No germs policy: If you are feeling ill or have symptoms of illness or believe you are Covid-positive, please do not come to Breakwater Cove and please do not board. Contact action@g2kr.com as soon as you think or suspect that illness will prevent your participation. We will make every effort to find another diver to fill your space and return your $35 donation.
